ECOSOC Youth Forum 2021 - Open Call for UNMGCY members for Keynote Speaker

Dear UNMGCY members! We are writing to you today with an exciting speaking opportunity for the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2021! The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) organises the annual ECOSOC Youth Forum (ECOSOC YF) which brings together young people from different parts of the world in a two-day dialogue with policymakers and UN officials. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Youth Forum, but it is also adapting to the global pandemic situation. Thus, the topic of the ECOSOC YF will be around COVID-19 and SDGs. The event will be entirely online on the 7th and 8th of April 2021.

What is the ECOSOC Youth Forum? The ECOSOC Youth Forum has evolved into a key platform where young people, high-level Government representatives and other stakeholders of the youth sector contribute to policy discussions through their positions, ideas, solutions, and innovations for the implementation of the SDGs. It is connected with key UN processes and events under the umbrella framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. In line with the previous editions, the 2021 ECOSOC Youth Forum will serve as a platform for multi-stakeholder discussions on how young people’s role can be further amplified and strengthened within the overarching framework of decade of action for the SDGs while taking into consideration the consequences of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. More information is available here. What is the speaking opportunity about? Several keynote speeches will launch officially the opening plenary of ECOSOC YF 2021 and UNMGCY has the opportunity to propose young people who will deliver one of these keynote speeches. We are looking for a young person, below 35, preferably someone who does not identify as male in order to ensure a gender balanced panel. The person should have experience in working with SDGs and on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on youth and should be able to deliver an inspirational speech on behalf of all young people around the world, in English ideally. Please note that the UN will be in charge of selecting the speaker for the session. In case of the selection of the representative of UNMGCY, the speaker commits to coordinate with the UNMGCY secretariat for the session.  How can this person apply? Please send us an application using the Google Form. We require: Your name, date of birth, nominating organization, your citizenship and country of residence. Your motivation, your experience and your ideas for the keynote speech. Also we kindly ask you for a video with samples of your previous public speeches, if possible. We kindly ask you fill in the Google Form by Thursday, 4th of February 2021 23:59 CET.
