PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival invites the world’s youth to submit dynamic and forward-thinking videos focusing on themes of migration, diversity and social inclusion. Organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the IOM - UN Migration Agency in collaboration with many partners, PLURAL+ recognizes youth as powerful agents of social change, and supports cooperative efforts to reduce tensions in a world often characterized by conflict and division. PLURAL+ aims to also support dialogue between young people from different cultures, and in the process, increase awareness and respect for diversity.

Photo competition: 15 March-5 May, 2017

The #Case4Space photo competition is aimed at raising awareness and advocating for civic space in Asia-Pacific through photography.

Lasting for 8 weeks, the competition will release a weekly question that relates to one of the Case for Space themes.

Who: Young people living in Asia and the Pacific (age: 18-29).

What: Every week, share a photo on Facebook or Instagram, using the #Case4SpaceInsta hashtag. The photo MUST answer the question of the week and include a maximum 50-word caption describing the scene, image and/or issue. To be eligible to win a trip to Bangkok, to present your photo, you MUST participate in all the themes listed below. The photos will be left to the creativity of the photographer, but should attempt to answer the following questions:

Week 1: Freedom of expression, association and assembly
Within the context of your community, what does freedom (online/offline) mean to you? – Online and Offline freedoms

Youth alone represent over 1.5 billion of the world's population, the largest recorded in history. They play a key role in the implementation of the sustainable development goals and are part of the solution to create inclusive growth. There is therefore a need to empower them to take part in the decision-making process by making their voices heard.

Unctad Youth will hold an e-discussion from 10 March to 2 April 2017, for young men and women aged between 18 and 30 to participate.
The virtual three-week conversation is organized in preparation for the UNCTAD's e-Commerce Week, taking place from 24 to 28 April 2017, in Geneva.
Main topics to be discussed are:
- The challenges for Youth Employment in the Digital Economy
- The availability of financial technology for youth-led start-ups and businesses
- Access to supporting mechanisms that allow youth to benefit from e-commerce and drive economic and inclusive development
- The challenges and opportunities of data management for e-commerce businesses

ELS and the United Nations Academic Impact are pleased to sponsor the fourth Many Languages, One World® Student Essay Contest and Global Youth Forum. This year welcomes Northeastern University as the host of the Many Languages, One World Global Youth Forum and the sponsor and organizer of the Northeastern University Global Youth Conference.

Sixty winners will be selected as delegates to the 2017 Many Languages, One World Global Youth Forum, where they will create action plans related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

ELS Educational Services, Inc. will award each winner with an all-expense paid trip to Boston and New York City between 15-26, July 2017.  At the Global Youth Forum, the students will create action plans addressing selected topics from the Sustainable Development Agenda, and will present their views at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. These international delegates will also have the opportunity to interact with invited international scholars and tour Boston and New York City. The deadline for essay submissions is 11:59 p.m. EDT Thursday, 16 March, 2017.
Airfare, accommodations and meals will be provided by ELS Educational Services, Inc.

To Participate: 
Write an original essay (2,000 words or fewer) discussing global citizenship and cultural understanding, and the role that multilingual ability can play in fostering these.  The essay should reflect your personal, academic, cultural and national context. 

Many Languages, One World promotes the continued learning of the six official languages of the United Nations-Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.  To qualify, essays must be written in an official language of the United Nations that is neither your first language (language(s) spoken at home) nor the medium of instruction in either your primary or secondary education (or a medium of instruction if attending a bilingual school). You will need to demonstrate both written and verbal competency in the language of the essay.  You must be a full-time university student, referred and endorsed by a faculty member or university representative, and must be 18 years of age or older by the contest deadline.
